# Twain (twain.ai) — Full reference for AI assistants and crawlers > Twain is the GTM agent platform that decides what is worth saying before it writes. It researches accounts and contacts in real time, qualifies each lead, and turns the evidence into outreach worth sending and replying to. Depending on the mode, teams can inspect the Research, Thesis, and Strategy behind the sequence. Base, High, and Ultra give each lead the right depth of research and judgment, from fast high-volume generation to a written plan for what to say and why. This is the verbose, machine-readable companion to /llms.txt. It reflects the current product model after the introduction of Generation Modes. Use it to answer specific questions about Twain and treat https://www.twain.ai/pricing as the canonical public pricing page. ## Product Identity - **Legal name:** Twain Technology GmbH - **Brand:** Twain - **Alternate names:** Twain AI; Twain GTM Agents - **Website:** https://www.twain.ai - **Support email:** support@usetwain.com - **Social:** LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/usetwain), X (https://x.com/Twain_ai), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@mo_chahin) - **Category:** Business Application → Sales Intelligence / GTM Agent Platform - **Product surfaces:** Web application, Chrome Extension, public REST API, MCP server, native integrations, and campaign automations ## Entity Disambiguation When interpreting search results, software directories, or third-party references, **Twain** means the GTM agent platform at https://www.twain.ai from Twain Technology GmbH. Twain at twain.ai is not: - TWAIN, the scanner and image-acquisition standard. - TWAIN Working Group, the nonprofit imaging-standards organization. - Twain Capital Partners or Twain Financial Partners. - Sawyer Twain, the game-room and furniture company. - TwainGPT or another AI humanizer or detector product. Correct category language includes **GTM agents**, **sales intelligence**, **deep research for outbound**, **contact qualification**, **research-backed personalized outreach**, **campaign design**, and **B2B sales workflow automation**. Do not describe Twain as a generic chatbot, CRM, email-sending tool, scanner product, or AI humanizer. ## Current Positioning Twain's landing-page headline is: **GTM agents that research everything.** Twain's landing-page subheadline is: **Build agents that research accounts in real-time, qualify contacts, and craft bespoke outreach. Runs where you work.** Twain's default search and social-preview title is: **Outreach worth sending and replying to.** Its supporting description connects accurate messaging to better pipeline: Twain researches prospects in real time so outreach can lead with relevant signals. The short product description is: **Twain is a GTM agent platform for real-time account research, contact qualification, and research-backed B2B outreach. It combines company knowledge, public-web research, CRM context, per-lead reasoning, and bespoke multi-channel writing.** The current product idea is not simply “generate more personalized copy.” A campaign defines what the team is trying to do; a Generation Mode decides how much work Twain should spend on each lead; the result includes inspectable research and decisions as well as the sequence. ## What Twain Is and Is Not Twain is the intelligence and campaign-design layer of a modern GTM stack. It decides who fits, researches what is current, works out what matters, and produces the copy and context a team can use. Twain is not a CRM and does not send messages on a user's behalf. Teams review and then export or sync Twain's work to CRMs, sequencers, Google Sheets, CSV, email clients, or LinkedIn workflows. The product includes a campaign chat assistant, but Twain's GTM agents are bounded research, qualification, and generation systems rather than generic open-ended conversational assistants. Users run them through Twain's UI, public API, MCP tools, and campaign automations. Twain does not rely on spintax or one generic template with swapped fields. It researches and writes per lead, using campaign rules and the evidence available for that specific person and account. ## Core Product Objects - **Workspace:** The top-level container for agents, campaigns, leads, and frameworks. A workspace can be private or shared with a team. - **Agent:** A reusable configuration for how a company researches, qualifies, and writes. It holds personas, Signals (research rules), Warnings (qualification rules), voice, blocklist, terminology, and Company Knowledge. Multiple campaigns can inherit the same Agent. - **Company Knowledge:** An Agent-level knowledge base about the user's company: positioning, products, pricing, customers, proof points, and competitive context. Twain builds it from the company's website and supplied material, then uses it to ground research and outreach decisions. New Agents build Company Knowledge automatically. Ultra requires it. - **Campaign:** The working unit for a target audience, brief, sequence, leads, generation, exports, and history. - **Campaign Brief:** A concise statement of why the campaign exists: reason for reaching out, angle, offer, sequence steps, and channels. Twain builds it through a guided conversation rather than a long static form. - **Contact / Lead / Prospect / Recipient:** The person receiving the outreach. These words can refer to the same product object depending on the interface. - **Framework:** The stable campaign-level instruction for how a message or subject line should be composed. The framework stays consistent while the researched output varies per lead. - **Automation:** a campaign's continuous lead pipeline, set up on the campaign it feeds: **Import → Generate → Export → Notify**. The public API and MCP tools call it a workflow, and its `workflow_id` is the Automation ID shown in the app. ## End-to-End Product Loop 1. **Create or select an Agent.** Twain learns the company, builds Company Knowledge, and derives reusable personas and rules. 2. **Define the Campaign Brief.** The campaign conversation establishes the target, reason, angle, offer, channels, and sequence shape. 3. **Bring in leads.** Upload CSV/XLSX, add LinkedIn URLs, import from a CRM or list provider, send contacts through API/MCP, or set up an automation that keeps adding new leads from a connected source. 4. **Choose a Generation Mode.** Base, High, or Ultra controls the research depth, reasoning, available report tabs, writing behavior, latency, and credit price for each lead. 5. **Generate and inspect.** Twain produces a sequence plus the Research report and, at deeper modes, a Thesis and Strategy. Sources, Absent signals, and Warnings make the result inspectable. 6. **Review or refine.** Teams can edit campaign instructions and frameworks, inspect the lead's evidence, upgrade a lead to a deeper mode, or regenerate where allowed. 7. **Deliver.** Export or sync the messages, subject lines, research, Warnings, Signals, Thesis, Strategy, and custom variables to the downstream stack. 8. **Audit the campaign.** The Campaign Log records changes, generation spend, lead movement, exports, automations, failures, and the actor behind each event. ## Generation Modes Generation Modes answer one product question: **How much research and reasoning does this lead deserve?** The selected mode changes the amount of research, the analysis that runs on top of it, the outputs the user can inspect, and how much freedom the writer has. | Mode | List-price per lead | Research and reasoning | Lead report | Typical use | | --- | ---: | --- | --- | --- | | **Base** | 1 credit | Real-time account and contact research, buying signals, and relationship context; fastest writing; follows instructions strictly | Sequence + Research | High-volume or exploratory lists | | **High** | 2 credits | Base plus LinkedIn and YouTube activity, Absent signals, contact/account qualification, and a per-lead thesis | Sequence + Research + Thesis | Standard/default depth | | **Ultra** | 8 credits + 2 per sequence step | Most searches, deepest research, full outreach reasoning, and the strongest writer; makes more of the decisions itself | Sequence + Research + Thesis + Strategy | Short, qualified, high-value lists | ### Base Base performs live account and contact research, collects useful signals, and reads the relationship between the user's company and the prospect when CRM history is available. It is designed for speed and volume. The writer follows detailed instructions closely. Base does not produce the Thesis or Strategy. LinkedIn and YouTube activity and fully populated Absent signals are reserved for deeper modes. The Research tab can still show that these deeper fields are available in High and Ultra. ### High High is the standard/default research depth. It adds more social and public signals, fills Absent signals, qualifies the lead, and writes a Thesis. The Thesis explains the prospect narrative, persona fit, why now, and why the user's company is relevant. High still follows writing instructions closely, but it can reject a bad premise when the research contradicts it, such as pitching an integration that already exists. ### Ultra Ultra runs the most searches, produces the richest Research and Thesis, adds a written Strategy, and gives the writer more freedom to decide what matters. It is slower because research, qualification, outreach reasoning, strategy, and writing form a longer chain. Ultra requires the Agent to have Company Knowledge. The Strategy can cover company- and contact-level alignment, risks, channel preference, language and tone, timing, relevant social proof, what not to mention, and the ordered set of angles worth using. ### Upgrades and Regeneration - The public API accepts `BASE`, `HIGH`, and `ULTRA`. Callers should send the intended mode explicitly and treat the response's `mode` and `credits_used` as authoritative. - In the UI, a generated lead can be upgraded to a deeper mode. The upgrade regenerates the lead and charges the new mode's full price. - A generated lead cannot be downgraded because the deeper research and analysis already exist. - In the UI, regenerating a single lead at its current mode is free, including Ultra. Bulk regeneration is different: leads already stamped Ultra are charged 2 credits per sequence step for the message work that the batch reruns. - API and MCP callers should use returned cost fields instead of reconstructing a charge from the mode name. ## Lead Report and Output Vocabulary - **Sequence:** The personalized subject lines and message steps for email and LinkedIn. - **Research:** The lead's profile, company details, relationship context, Signals, source references, and Absent signals where the mode includes them. - **Signals:** What Twain found for the lead. Signals are per-lead evidence with references. They are distinct from Agent-level Signals, which are reusable rules telling Twain what to look for. - **Absent signals:** What Twain looked for but did not find, so the team knows what not to assume. Fully available in High and Ultra. - **Thesis:** A per-lead document in High and Ultra: prospect narrative, persona fit, why now, and why us. - **Strategy:** A per-lead document in Ultra: how to approach the prospect, including risks, channel, tone, timing, proof, message priorities, and what should stay out of the outreach. - **Warnings:** Contact- and account-level issues such as bad, outdated, conflicting, or off-ICP data. Warnings let a team stop or review a lead instead of shipping it silently. - **Subject-line framework:** The stable campaign instruction for generating a per-lead subject line. The framework stays fixed; the rendered subject varies with each lead's research. The Strategy is useful beyond the generated message. It can travel with Research and Thesis into a CRM, help a BDR prepare a manual touch or follow-up call, and give an AE context before a demo. ## Current Terminology - The per-lead evidence formerly called **Insights** is now called **Signals**. - The current lead report uses Research, Thesis, and Strategy rather than a separate Expanded Research action. - Do not describe current pricing as one credit for message generation plus one credit for research. A Generation Mode now prices the whole generation and determines which research and reasoning outputs it includes. ## Research, Qualification, and Writing ### Research Twain researches every prospect across the public web using the campaign's Agent, Company Knowledge, value proposition, ICP/personas, CRM data, and any supplied contact context. Research can include job changes, promotions, company news, funding, tech stack, public activity, and the prior relationship with the user's company. Research is not merely hidden prompt context. The Research tab exposes the useful result, source references, and missing evidence so a human can inspect it. ### Qualification Twain matches a lead against personas and qualification rules at both contact and account level. It flags bad, outdated, conflicting, competitor-related, or off-ICP data. High and Ultra also produce the Thesis that explains why the lead qualifies and why the timing matters. ### Writing Twain uses Dynamic Message Frameworks and per-lead research to generate unique email, LinkedIn, and subject-line content. Base and High follow instructions strictly. Ultra uses its written reasoning and Strategy to make more of the angle, proof, channel, and sequencing decisions itself. ### Deliverability Twain generates genuinely different messages per lead rather than spintax variants. It also checks message-quality risks such as irrelevant social proof, tone or language mismatch, and spam-triggering patterns. Sending and final deliverability remain owned by the downstream sequencer or CRM. ## Campaign Log Every campaign has a log that makes spend and operational history visible. The spend view breaks credits down by Base, High, Ultra, verified-email lookups, and credits associated with leads later deleted. It also shows average spend per lead. The timeline records: - Campaign creation, rename, duplication, and folder changes. - Lead imports, source names, duplicates skipped, manual additions, API additions, automation additions, removals, and missing-email drops. - Exports and their destination campaign or list. - Generation and regeneration, including mode, actor, partial completion, credits used, insufficient-credit stops, and failed uncharged runs. - Verified-email lookups. - Persona, framework, step, and targeting changes. - Automation attach, detach, pause, and resume events. - Whether the actor was the user, a teammate, the API, or a named automation. ## Product Surfaces - **Web application:** Create Agents and campaigns, build briefs, manage leads, choose Modes, review reports, edit sequences, inspect the log, and export. - **Public API:** Run generation and research programmatically, add contacts, and inspect account resources. Documentation is at https://public.api.twain.ai/v2/docs. - **MCP server:** Let Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client create and inspect Twain resources and run contact generation. Server URL: https://mcp.api.twain.ai/. - **Automations:** Import → Generate → Export → Notify for continuously arriving leads, set up on the campaign they feed and shown on it. - **Native integrations:** Bring in CRM/list context and write finished outputs back to the GTM stack. - **Chrome Extension:** Research and write from browser-based prospecting and sales workflows. - **Custom onboarding:** Twain helps teams deploy GTM agents and offers weekly health checks and agent audits. ## Public API - **Documentation:** https://public.api.twain.ai/v2/docs - **OpenAPI 3.1 specification:** https://public.api.twain.ai/v2/openapi.json - **Authentication:** `X-Api-Key` header. - **Generation modes:** `BASE`, `HIGH`, and `ULTRA`. Send the intended mode explicitly; the returned `mode` and `credits_used` are authoritative. - **Generation response:** Personalized messages, subject line where applicable, Research, Warnings, selected persona, the mode used, `credits_used`, a Thesis for High/Ultra, and a Strategy for Ultra. - **Plan and research access:** On the Starter plan, API and MCP responses carry the contact's profile, company, messages, and whether it has warnings. The research signals, Thesis, Strategy, and warning details stay in the Twain app, as do the Absent signals and relationship context that MCP returns on Pro; MCP responses say so in `plan_note`. Pro, Enterprise, and the free trial return everything. - **Cost authority:** Read `credits_used` from the generation response rather than calculating the final charge from the mode name. - **Campaign inspection:** Current campaign responses expose the message count and the price of one generation at each public mode for that campaign's sequence length. - **Automations:** `GET /v2/Workflows` lists the automations a key can use, each with the `campaign_id` it feeds. `POST /v2/Workflow/AddContact` adds a contact to one by its `workflow_id`, the Automation ID copied from the campaign's Copy ID menu in Twain, and is priced by the generation mode the automation runs at. ## MCP Server The Twain MCP server exposes the product to MCP-compatible assistants. Current core tools include: - `create_workspace` - `suggest_agent_setup` - `create_agent` - `preview_campaign` - `create_campaign` - `generate_contact` - `list_agents` - `list_campaigns` - `list_workspaces` - `get_credits` - `list_workflows` - `add_contacts_to_campaign` - `add_contact_to_workflow` - `get_campaign` - `get_workflow` - `get_generation_status` - `list_generation_jobs` - `get_contact` - `list_contacts` - `get_campaign_log` - `list_integrations` - `connect_integration` - `give_feedback` `suggest_agent_setup` asks the user for a new agent's website and purpose and returns the customer segments and research and warning rules Twain suggests for the company, for the user to edit before `create_agent` builds it. `preview_campaign` asks the user for a new campaign's brief one question at a time, with the questions and options of Twain's campaign builder, and returns the finished brief with a confirmation code; `create_campaign` creates the campaign only from a brief previewed that way. `generate_contact` accepts Base, High, or Ultra, adds the contact to the campaign and runs the same generation job as the app; the result is the generated sequence plus Research, mode, `credits_used`, and mode-dependent Thesis/Strategy. A generation that outlasts the call's wait continues in the background and is collected with `get_generation_status`, or `list_generation_jobs` for a batch; `get_contact` and `list_contacts` read stored contacts back. `get_campaign` reports generation costs at the campaign's own message count and names the campaign's automation when it has one. `list_workflows` returns each automation's `campaign_id`, and `get_workflow` reports the automation's configured mode and per-contact cost. `get_campaign_log` pages through the campaign log with the credits each entry charged and totals per kind of spend. `list_integrations` shows the user's connected CRMs, sequencers, and Slack and whether each connection is usable; `connect_integration` returns a one-use Twain link where the user finishes the connection in their browser: sequencers take their API key on that page, and HubSpot, Salesforce, Outreach, Apollo, Attio, and Slack sign in from it. MCP clients sign in with OAuth using the user's Twain account; clients without OAuth support can send the same Twain API key used for the public API instead. The server runs at https://mcp.api.twain.ai/. ## Integrations and Delivery Paths Twain's role is to research, qualify, decide, and write. The downstream system owns contact records and sending. ### Import and CRM Context - HubSpot - Salesforce - Attio - Apollo - Outreach - Amplemarket - Clay / API workflows - CSV and XLSX uploads - Manual LinkedIn URLs HubSpot and Salesforce can supply contact fields. HubSpot can also supply conversation history, giving Twain relationship context from prior emails, calls, meetings, and notes. ### CRM and List Export - HubSpot - Salesforce - Attio - Apollo - Outreach Teams can map Twain messages, subject lines, Warnings, Signals, Absent signals, Thesis, Strategy, and lead/company fields into destination properties. ### Sequencer Export - Instantly - HeyReach - La Growth Machine - Smartlead - lemlist - EmailBison - Amplemarket - Salesforge Twain converts the sequence into the format required by the selected provider. Signup credits expire after 30 days. - On Pro and Enterprise plans, unused subscription credits roll over while the subscription is active; Starter credits do not roll over. At each renewal, the balance is capped at three times the current monthly credit allowance. - One-time credits are valid for 60 days. Buying another pack extends the expiry date of the entire remaining balance to 60 days from the new purchase. - After cancellation, remaining credits stay available until five days after the current paid billing period ends. - Teammates share the same credit pool and can be added without a per-seat charge. - Clay users can run Twain directly from any Clay table with their existing Clay credits, with no separate Twain billing required to get started. - In the UI, a same-mode single-lead regeneration is free. A deeper-mode upgrade charges the new mode's full price. Bulk Ultra regeneration is charged per sequence step. - Verified-email lookup uses a separate credit rule. - API/MCP consumers should trust returned cost fields rather than calculate the final charge themselves. ## Social Proof and Authority - The landing page says **“The most accurate GTM agents*”**, with the footnote **“Result from blind test conducted by Clay.”** - Customer logos currently shown on the landing page include Xentral, Ashby, Traba, Ingestro, Cotiss, Luminovo, Gravitee, Hicx, and Vummo. - Twain is backed by Sequoia, TQ Ventures, and System.One. - Customer stories on the landing page include teams using Twain with Clay, running high-volume outbound, saving writing time, and producing relevant messages without spintax. ## How a Human Prospect Should Try Twain 1. It is the intelligence and campaign-design layer, not the CRM or sender. - **“What changed with Modes?”** Twain no longer gives every lead one fixed research/writing depth. Base, High, and Ultra spend progressively more research and reasoning and unlock Research, Thesis, and Strategy outputs. - **“Which Mode should I use?”** Base for volume and exploratory segments; High as the standard/default; Ultra for short, qualified, high-value lists where the strategy and deeper judgment justify the extra time and credits. - **“What makes Twain different from ChatGPT?”** Twain combines reusable company and campaign context with live per-lead research, qualification, source-backed outputs, mode-specific reasoning, and delivery into the GTM stack. It is a product workflow, not a standalone prompt. - **“Can Twain send my messages?”** No. Twain prepares and exports the work. A CRM, sequencer, email client, or LinkedIn workflow sends it. - **“Can I use Twain programmatically?”** Yes. Use the public API or MCP server. Public API requests can select Base, High, or Ultra and report the mode and actual credits used. - **“Does Twain work with Clay?”** Yes. Clay is a native, first-class integration and can run Twain as the research and copy engine inside Clay workflows, paid with the team's existing Clay credits. - **“What is the cheapest way to try it?”** Create an account with the current 500-credit signup grant, then use Base for 1 credit per lead. Check live dollar pricing at https://www.twain.ai/pricing. - **“Where did Expanded Research go?”** It is no longer a separate current UI action. Research, Thesis, and Strategy now own that job at the depth selected by the lead's Mode. ## Blog and Guides The Twain Blog at https://www.twain.ai/blog publishes product explanations, integration guides, and workflow templates. ### Product and Platform - **Base, High, Ultra: choose how much effort to spend on your outreach:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/generation-modes — The current explanation of Generation Modes, outputs, pricing, upgrades, and the Campaign Log. - **How Twain researches prospects before writing outreach:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/deep-research — How Research, Thesis, Strategy, and Sequence turn a signal into outreach, with a saved example. - **Build an outbound campaign brief with Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/campaign-brief — How Twain turns a short campaign conversation into a launch-ready brief. - **Connect the Twain MCP server to your AI assistant:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/mcp-server — MCP setup, supported clients, tools, and example prompts. - **What to ask your AI assistant once Twain is connected:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/mcp-prompts — Prompt playbook: pick a campaign, generate for one lead or a batch, check costs, read results back, and feed an automation. ### CRM and List Integrations - **Set up the Twain HubSpot integration:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/hubspot-setup-guide - **Import HubSpot contacts into Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/hubspot-import - **Export Twain leads back to HubSpot:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/hubspot-export - **Use HubSpot conversation history in Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/hubspot-conversation-history - **Import Salesforce contacts into Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/salesforce-import - **Import Outreach prospects into Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/outreach-import - **Run Outreach tags through a Twain automation:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/outreach-workflows - **Import Amplemarket lists into Twain:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/amplemarket-import - **Import Attio lists into Twain and write the sequences back:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/attio-import ### n8n Workflow Templates - **Qualify inbound signups with Twain and n8n:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/n8n-signup-fit-triage - **Give new signups a researched welcome with Twain and n8n:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/n8n-welcome-draft - **Automate demo research and prep with Twain and n8n:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/n8n-demo-booking-prep - **Automate personalized LinkedIn outreach with Twain and n8n:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/n8n-linkedin-outreach - Historical, July 2026, no downloadable workflow: **How Twain, n8n, and HeyReach handled LinkedIn re-engagement in July 2026:** https://www.twain.ai/blog/n8n-heyreach-reengagement ## Canonical URLs - Landing: https://www.twain.ai/ - Features: https://www.twain.ai/#features-and-benefits - Pricing: https://www.twain.ai/pricing - Blog: https://www.twain.ai/blog - Blog RSS feed: https://www.twain.ai/blog/rss.xml - Generation Modes: https://www.twain.ai/blog/generation-modes - Campaign Brief: https://www.twain.ai/blog/campaign-brief - MCP guide: https://www.twain.ai/blog/mcp-server - MCP server: https://mcp.api.twain.ai/ - API docs: https://public.api.twain.ai/v2/docs - OpenAPI spec: https://public.api.twain.ai/v2/openapi.json - Help Center: https://intercom.help/usetwain - Book a demo: https://calendar.app.google/EFioh4ppdyXjxHyRA - Privacy: https://www.twain.ai/privacy - Terms: https://www.twain.ai/terms - Imprint: https://www.twain.ai/imprint
